Recently, I have been researching the songs of Emilie Holmberg and stumbled across this catalog of female Swedish composers from 1800 to 1935. It is organized alphabetically by last name and lists their output – music for everything from organ to art song. There is also a bibliography at the end for further research. What it doesn’t list is how to get one’s hands on the music… For that I’d recommend WorldCat and the Swedish National Library.
The 5th International “Das Lied” Competition is currently underway with 26 singers from 22 countries competing in 3 rounds. It was founded by Thomas Quasthoff, baritone, in 2009 and is held every other year. This year “Das Lied” is a part of the International Song Center in Heidelberg.
